Who We Are

  • We are a user run mental health centre based in Tower Hamlets
  • We have been up and running since April 2003
  • We support the running of several groups of mental health service users
  • We encourage mental health service users from all ethnic backgrounds to take up use of available space at the centre

Our History

Established in 2003 with funding from the Monument Trust to employ one service user as a development worker, BowHaven initially catered for 5 user led groups funded through the Social Services small grants. Over the years the number of groups has increased to 11 on average 100 mental health services users accessing the centre, but the membership is far greater. We had been able to secure short term Neighbourhood Renewal Funding for addition development work, allowing us to recruit two members of staff and with the original development worker taking on the new role of Centre Manager. In May 2006 we became a registered charity with 7 of our service users as Trustees. Our ongoing work with the community is being recognised by commissioners and as a result had provided joint funding for 2007/8 from Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust and Tower Hamlets Neighbourhood Renewal Fund to continue our good work. We are at present fully funded by NHS Primary Care Trust.
